53 members and partners spent four days in Paris from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 May 2024 with the 2024 President, Chris Foster. The theme was the restoration of Notre-Dame Cathedral following the fire of April 2019.
The keynote speaker at the conference at La Maison des Travaux Publics on Friday 24 May was Philippe Villeneuve, Chief Architect of Historic Monuments and lead architect of the Notre-Dame restoration team. He covered clean-up by robots, securing the structure after fire and water damage, temporary supports for flying buttresses and damaged vaults, the new timber roof and spire, stonework, stained glass and the scaffolding up to the top of the spire nearly 100 m above the ground. The conference was opened by Scott Ruby of the British Embassy’s Commercial Section.
Voyagers also visited the Sainte-Chapelle, Sacré-Cœur and the Château de Chantilly and its stables, and enjoyed a gala dinner at Restaurant Mollard.
